Free Eisenhower Matrix Maker

An Eisenhower matrix sorts what is on your plate by two questions: does it matter, and does it have to happen soon? This maker gives you the four boxes, lets you drag things between them, and exports the result.

What is Eisenhower Matrix Maker?

The Eisenhower matrix (also called the urgent-important matrix or priority matrix) puts every task in one of four boxes. Important and urgent tasks go in Do now. Important but not urgent ones go in Schedule, where they get a day before they become urgent. Urgent but not important ones go in Quick or hand off: do them fast, or ask someone else. Neither goes in Park it. Seeing the four boxes side by side makes it easier to stop reacting to whatever is loudest.

How to Use Eisenhower Matrix Maker

1

Type a task in any box and press Enter. Paste one per line if you like, adding each line separately.

2

Drag a task to another box, or use its Move menu: it works from the keyboard too.

3

Edit the words or delete a task with the buttons beside it.

4

Copy the matrix as plain text or as a Markdown task list, or press Print for a clean page.

5

Want the tasks in a to-do list? Save to WorkBoard puts each line in your Inbox (up to 30 at a time).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Eisenhower matrix?

A four-box grid that sorts tasks by importance and urgency: Do now (important, urgent), Schedule (important, not urgent), Quick or hand off (urgent, not important) and Park it (neither). It is named after the idea attributed to US President Dwight Eisenhower that what is urgent is seldom important and what is important is seldom urgent.

How do I decide which box a task goes in?

Ask two questions. Does it move you toward something that matters to you? That is important. Does it have a deadline or a person waiting within the next few days? That is urgent. The answers give the box.

Is my list uploaded anywhere?

No. The four boxes are kept in your browser’s local storage and never leave your device. The only time anything is sent is if you choose Save to WorkBoard while signed in, which saves the lines you chose to your own WorkBoard account.

Can I print it?

Yes. Press Print and only the four boxes are printed, without the buttons around them.

How is this different from WorkBoard?

This page is a quick one-off matrix for a list you type. WorkBoard’s Matrix works on your real tasks and moves them by changing their priority and plan, so the boxes stay current as dates pass.
