What is iMessage Chat Generator?

An iMessage chat generator creates a visual mockup of an iPhone Messages conversation — the status bar (time, signal, Wi-Fi, battery), contact header with avatar and carrier label, and a thread of sent and received message bubbles — without sending an actual text. It renders entirely in the browser, so no phone number, carrier account, or Apple ID is involved.

This generator covers the details people most often need: blue iMessage bubbles or green SMS bubbles, a black-background dark mode, centered date and time separators, image messages, a "Delivered" or "Read" receipt under your last message, an editable message bar placeholder, and a custom contact photo. How to Use iMessage Chat Generator

Blue vs green bubbles

On an iPhone, blue bubbles mean the message was sent as an iMessage over the internet to another Apple device. Green bubbles mean the message went out as a standard SMS or MMS through the carrier, which happens when the recipient isn't using iMessage or iMessage is unavailable. Choose "Blue bubbles (iMessage)" or "Green bubbles (SMS)" in the controls to match the conversation you want to show. Changing the style also swaps the message bar placeholder between "iMessage" and "Text Message", unless you have already typed your own.

Received bubbles stay gray in both modes, and sent bubbles take the color you picked. The exported image uses exactly what the preview shows.

Fake text message with a black background

Apple's Messages app uses a true black chat background in dark mode, not a dark gray. That's the look people usually want for a fake text message with a black background. Tick "Black background (dark mode)" to switch the thread to black with dark-gray received bubbles and white text; untick it for the light theme. The same setting applies to PNG and JPG exports. This generator only draws the mockup, so it never changes the appearance of your phone or your Messages app.

How This Tool Works

The chat thread is rendered as styled HTML in the browser — status bar, contact header, message bubbles, images, and composer bar — matching iOS Messages' light and dark (black background) themes. When you export, html2canvas captures the rendered thread at 2x scale. PNG keeps the rounded corners transparent; JPG is filled with the thread's background color. Clipboard copy writes the PNG to the system clipboard through the browser's image clipboard API.

All mockup rendering happens locally in your browser. Message text, contact photos, and attached images are never sent to our servers, Apple, or any carrier. This tool has no connection to iMessage, SMS, or any phone network.

Usage Policy

Use this generator for mockups, parody, teaching, design work, and private jokes. Do not use it to impersonate a real person, harass or defame anyone, spread misinformation, or pass a fabricated conversation off as evidence. Add a clear "MOCKUP" label when sharing outside a private joke or presentation context.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this send a real text message?

No. This tool only generates an image that looks like an iMessage conversation. It does not send SMS or iMessage texts, does not require a phone number or Apple ID, and nothing you type reaches another device. It is a visual mockup, not a messaging client.

How do I make a fake text message with a black background?

Tick "Black background (dark mode)" in the controls panel. This switches the thread background to black, the received bubbles to dark gray, and the status and carrier text to match Apple's Messages dark theme. The setting carries through to the downloaded image.

Can I make green bubbles instead of blue?

Yes. Use the bubble color dropdown to switch between blue (iMessage) and green (SMS). Green bubbles are what an iPhone shows when a text is sent as SMS instead of over iMessage.

Can I show Delivered or Read under a message?

Yes. Pick "Delivered" or "Read" in the receipt dropdown. For "Read" you can set the time shown, such as "Read 9:43". The receipt appears under the last message sent by you.

Can I add photos, a contact picture, or date separators?

Yes. Use "Attach image" to add a photo to a message, "Upload Avatar" for the contact photo, and the date/time separator checkbox to add a centered label above a message. All images stay in your browser.

Can I download as JPG or copy the image?

Yes. You can download a PNG or a JPG, or use "Copy to clipboard" to paste the image straight into a chat or document. Clipboard copy needs a browser that supports image clipboard access; if yours does not, use Download instead.

Is it okay to use this to prank a friend or make a meme?

Mockups made here are for entertainment, presentations, and prototyping. If you share one, make it clear it is not a real screenshot. Presenting a fabricated conversation as genuine (for example, to harass, defame, or deceive someone) is not an appropriate use of this tool.

Can I change the carrier name and status bar?

Yes. The carrier label, status bar time, and battery percentage are all editable fields above the preview, and so is the message bar placeholder.

Is any of my message content uploaded to a server?

No. The message text, contact photo, and attached images are only used locally in your browser to render the preview and the exported image. Nothing is uploaded.
