All rendering happens in Canvas/DOM in the browser; no Instagram account, login, or API access is required, and no message content is sent anywhere.

How This Tool Works

The DM thread is rendered as styled HTML in the browser — contact header, message bubbles, and composer bar — matching Instagram's light and dark theme colors. When you click download, html2canvas captures the rendered thread element at 2x scale and exports it as a PNG via canvas.toDataURL().

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this send a real message on Instagram?

No. This tool only generates a PNG image that looks like an Instagram DM thread. It does not connect to Instagram, does not require login, and nothing you type is delivered to anyone on the platform. It is a visual mockup, not a messaging client.

Can I make a fake Instagram DM in dark mode?

Yes. Toggle "Dark Mode" in the controls panel to switch the thread background, bubble colors, and status text to Instagram's dark theme before downloading.

Is it okay to use this to prank a friend or make a meme?

Mockups made here are for entertainment, presentations, and prototyping. If you share one, make it clear it is not a real screenshot — presenting a fabricated conversation as genuine (for example, to harass, defame, or deceive someone) is not an appropriate use of this tool.

Can I add more than two people to the thread?

This generator is built for one-on-one DM threads (a single contact and "you"). Group chat mockups with multiple participant names are not currently supported.

Is my avatar photo uploaded to a server?

No. The avatar and message text are only used locally in your browser to render the preview and PNG export. Nothing is uploaded.

What image size does the download produce?

The PNG is exported at 2x scale from the on-screen 375px-wide mockup, giving a sharp, presentation-ready image without extra configuration.
