What is Random US Area Codes?

This generator picks random area codes from across the country, showing you which state and cities are covered, the local time zone, and interesting background notes — useful for developers building test data, writers adding realistic detail, or anyone curious about US telephony geography.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all US area codes included?
No — this generator includes 37 notable area codes across all major regions. The full NANP list has hundreds of codes including overlays and new assignments.
What is an overlay area code?
An overlay shares the same geographic area as an existing area code to provide more phone numbers as the original runs out. For example, 347 is an overlay for 718 in New York City's outer boroughs.
Why does Arizona's area code note say "no DST"?
Arizona does not observe daylight saving time (with the exception of the Navajo Nation), so its offset from other US time zones changes depending on the time of year.
